The Things I Had To Do

Pandemic Poetry

Sketch of a calendar for August with a to-do list beside it.
Image from pikrepo.

I had things to do, you know?
I had places to see.
I had tattoos to get.
I had friends to meet.
I had the flickering embers of new relationships to fan.

But now everything’s

stopped.

I had people to marry.
I had health conditions to treat.
I had new houses to move into.
I had fertility treatments to attend.

I wasn’t done yet.

Now I’m just supposed

to just wait

for you?

I had relatives who had years left of life.
I had hugs that weren’t supposed to end.
I had people that I will never see again.

Just wait

Because they weren’t done yet either.
